France Life Imaging

France Life Imaging (FLI) is the French national research infrastructure for biomedical imaging. It is a multi-sited, multimodal Node that clasps 10 regional hubs who offer access to all major in vivo imaging modalities for pre-clinical and clinical studies, including MRI (from 0.5T to 7T for clinical research; from 4.7T to 11.7T for preclinical imaging), PET, SPECT, CT, micro-CT, ultrasound, optical and opto-acoustic modalities, and MEG.

FLI does not only provide access to innovative or even unique imaging systems, but also supplies a methodological expertise in all imaging fields. The research infrastructure allows both preclinical and clinical research from A to Z within the whole sphere of activity of biomedical imaging, including high-end translational imaging. All main research areas covered by FLI are of high societal impact, namely neurology, psychiatry, cardiometabolism, oncology, neuromuscular as well as inflammatory, immune, and infectious diseases.

FLI was created and funded in 2012 by the French Investment for the Future Program. Since then, FLI has been part of the French national roadmap for research infrastructures.

France Life Imaging is the counterpart for medical imaging research of the France BioImaging node of EuroBioImaging ERIC.

Specialities and expertise of the Node:

France Life Imaging disposes of five networks of expertise which focus on critical areas of medical imaging:

1. Molecular Imaging Agents,

2. Instrumentation and Technological Innovations,

3. Image guided interventional radiology,

4. Multimodal Image Analysis, and

5. Training.

Additionally, the transversal hub “Information Analysis and Management” provides a unique, production-level infrastructure for multicenter image harmonization, traceability and analysis, which is essential for preclinical and clinical studies. Its objective is to facilitate the access and reuse of imaging data, to store, manage and process large preclinical and clinical imaging data sets and associated metadata.
